Sprinkler Cost Assistance Program
To encourage renovation and infill construction in existing properties in Savannah, SDRA and the City of Savannah offer a Sprinkler Cost Assistance Program to property owners. The program provides low-interest financing to enable owners to install new sprinkler systems in the upper stories of buildings within the Broughton Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard/Montgomery Street Urban Redevelopment Areas. The program can also be used for new infill construction.
Eligibility and Criteria
To qualify for the Sprinkler Cost Assistance Program, projects must involve substantial renovation of a historic structure, in which the construction cost exceeds 50% of the assessed value of the building excluding the valuation of the land per existing building codes and City code.
Funds will be distributed with a fixed interest rate of 4% with an eight-year term. There is no maximum or minimum funding amount. A one-time, $100 processing fee will be charged to the applicant. Eligible uses of funds include:
- Replacing existing sprinklers
- Replacing existing piping in order to bring building up to code
- Installing new sprinklers and piping
