Lane Lighting Program

In 2006 the City of Savannah, SDRA, and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department conducted a survey to assess street and lane lighting downtown.  From this survey numerous locations were identified as needing advanced lighting, especially lanes because they provide access to upper-story residential and office development downtown.  To address this problem, the lane lighting program was created.  Through this program, the City purchases light fixtures and gives them to property owners of buildings in dark areas.  The property owners are responsible for installing and maintaining the lights.  To date, 11 lights have been placed around downtown and plans are in place to purchase additional lights and expand the program to greater downtown.
